Spöön was just 20 years old. He performed with his Symmonds Electronic Drums and took the room by storm.
He sang about Aliens, Insects and Machines taking over the world, and warned of nuclear war.
In January 1980, Spöön moved back to London to a Squat in Stockwell where he lived for 6 years.

It was 1976, the beginning of Punk in the UK. Originally called Slammers Knobb, The Whippets played many gigs in Totnes, Dartington, Plymouth and Exeter, and had large local following.
Influenced by The Doors, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Be-Bop Deluxe, as well as new bands like the Stranglers, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Magazine, Pere Ubu and others, they created their own unique Art Punk Rock sound.
With a lot of Record Company interest the Whippets were encouraged to move to London, where they squatted in Clapham Old Town and then Brixton, in South London. They briefly changed their name to the 39 Steppes and were helped by several people including Jimmy Cauty, Charlie Gillet & Gordon Nelki of Oval Records, Richard Reynolds of Rondo

They briefly changed their name to the 39 Steppes and were helped by several people including Jimmy Cauty, Charlie Gillet & Gordon Nelki of Oval Records, Richard Reynolds of Rondor Music and many others. They played many gigs London including Dingwall's, The Rock Garden and the Time Out Election Night Party.at the Venue, Supporting Neil Innes of Bonzo Dog Duda Band Fame. Peter Townsend of The Who came into their Dressing Room. Everyone was speechless! The Whippets split up in September of 1979.
Although they did release a record at the time, they recorded an Album's worth of material at three recording sessions, in Torquay & Dartmoor in Devon and Radio Luxembourg Studios in London, in the presence of Simon Napier Bell.
